A Snapshot of Employee Engagement Worldwide

Employee engagement is important regardless of location; it is a predictor of a company’s long term sustainability. Therefore, organizations all around the world must factor it into their calculations of how well their business is doing.

I’ve noticed that most of the big players around the world are reporting very similar employee engagement numbers. Overall, about 57-58% of employees are engaged. Of those, about 35% are highly engaged. Considering the direct link between highly engaged employees and amazing business results, we can – and must – do better!

Employee Engagement Worldwide
The key drivers for most employees today are related to:

  • Career opportunities
  • Recognition
  • Communications within the company
  • Stress (particularly around how performance is managed and the future of the company)
  • Reputation of the company

Whether you are measuring employee engagement or not, the messages are clear:

Companies that believe in keeping corporate secrets need to rethink their approach. The absence of disclosure usually means that the corporate grapevine takes over – and it is never as positive as the truth!

Every organization has the potential to build a highly productive, engaging workplace culture. The first step is measuring where you currently are with employee engagement and identifying problem areas (such as too much secrecy or toxic leaders)!
